SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Our Senior hurlers met Rapparees in Round 2 of the Pettitts Senior Hurling Championship on Saturday in Wexford Park. Gary Moore delighted the crowd with an excellent early goal and there followed an even exchange for the first half, tipping in the Rapps favour towards the latter end, closing out the half 4 points ahead of Glynn Barntown. Despite the benefit of a strong breeze in the second half our boys struggled to get to grips with the game and a gap of 2 or 3 points remained between the teams for most of these 30 minutes. In the dying stages of ordinary time a Mark Fanning free rebounded off the Rapparees upright and Craig Doyle was on hand to double it to the net to put us a point up. However the excitement was shortlived as Rapps replied instantly by raising the Green flag at the other end of the field. The added minutes of extra time were not enough and Rapps took the spoils 2-17 to 2-15.
